Carbon reduction plan
Adept Training Platforms Ltd (company number 17275687) publishes this plan in line with Procurement Policy Note 006 and the NHS Net Zero Supplier Roadmap. It covers our commitment, our emissions, our targets and the measures we take.
1. Commitment to achieving net zero
Adept Training Platforms Ltd is committed to achieving net zero greenhouse gas emissions across its UK operations by 2030, ahead of the 2050 government requirement and the NHS date of 2045 for the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus. We also support the NHS commitment to net zero for the NHS Carbon Footprint by 2040.
We are a micro supplier: one person, no premises, no vehicles and no physical product. Our measurable footprint is very small and consists almost entirely of purchased cloud computing, one laptop and occasional business travel.
2. Baseline emissions
Baseline year: 17 June 2026 (incorporation) to 30 June 2027. This is our first reporting period, so current emissions equal baseline emissions; the first year-on-year comparison will appear in the next annual update. Emissions are reported in tonnes of carbon dioxide equivalent covering the seven greenhouse gases of the Kyoto Protocol.
- Scope 1 — 0 tCO2e. The company owns no premises, holds no fuel and operates no vehicles.
- Scope 2 — 0 tCO2e. The company purchases no energy and holds no metered supply.
- Scope 3, upstream transportation and distribution — 0 tCO2e. No physical goods are purchased, stored or moved.
- Scope 3, waste generated in operations — 0 tCO2e. No operational premises and no operational waste stream.
- Scope 3, downstream transportation and distribution — 0 tCO2e. The product is software delivered over the internet; nothing is shipped.
- Scope 3, business travel and employee commuting including homeworking — being measured. Recording began in the first reporting year and figures will be published in the first annual update. Procurement Policy Note 006 allows a small supplier to report the data available to it, with an explanation of gaps and the steps being taken to close them; we rely on that provision for this first year only.
Reported voluntarily, beyond the required subset: our single largest source is purchased goods and services, specifically cloud computing and one laptop. We report it because that is where our footprint actually sits, and reporting only the mandatory categories would understate it.
3. Reduction targets
- Maintain zero Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions while we have no premises or vehicles — continuing.
- Measure and report cloud computing emissions using our provider's per-project carbon reporting — by the first annual review.
- Business travel by rail or public transport wherever a rail journey exists between the two points — continuing.
- Any future premises or hosting contract to be on a renewable electricity supply.
- Net zero across UK operations by 2030; alignment with the NHS Carbon Footprint Plus by 2045.
A percentage reduction target against a baseline of close to zero would be meaningless at our size. The meaningful commitment is to keep the footprint structurally low as the company grows, which the targets above express as conditions on growth rather than as a curve.
4. Measures already in place
- No premises, no fleet, no physical product. We operate remotely on cloud-hosted infrastructure, so the categories that dominate most suppliers' footprints do not arise.
- Renewable-matched hosting. Our infrastructure runs on Google Cloud in the UK and the European Union, which matches its annual electricity consumption with renewable energy purchases.
- Scale-to-zero architecture. The platform runs as event-driven functions and a document database that consume no compute when idle. There is no always-on server in our estate.
- A deliberately light application. No native app, no video and no heavy media. Each release is cached whole by the browser, so a returning user transfers roughly 10KB rather than downloading the application again.
- Digital replacement of paper. The product exists to replace circulated spreadsheets, emailed attachments and printed assessment packs with one live record.
- Hardware. Devices are used for their full service life and passed to a certified reuse or recycling scheme at end of life.
- Data minimisation. We hold no patient data, store only what a training programme needs, and expire audit records automatically. Less data stored is less energy consumed.
5. Where we could do more
Placement allocation decides where several hundred doctors travel for six months at a time, across a dozen trusts. A system that already models every placement against capacity is the natural place to surface travel distance alongside training need. This is not built and we make no claim for it, but it is the one place where this product could affect emissions at a scale worth measuring, and we record it here as a deliberate future opportunity.
6. Declaration
This carbon reduction plan has been completed in accordance with Procurement Policy Note 006 and the associated guidance and reporting standard for carbon reduction plans. Emissions have been reported and recorded in accordance with the published reporting standard for carbon reduction plans and the Greenhouse Gas Protocol corporate standard, using the appropriate Government emission conversion factors. Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions have been reported in accordance with SECR requirements, and the required subset of Scope 3 emissions in accordance with the Corporate Value Chain (Scope 3) Standard.
This plan has been reviewed and approved by the company director. The company has no board; Procurement Policy Note 006 provides for director approval where no board is in place.
